Would this not be an ideal way for an FP ...

There's at least two teams and each team is divided into 2 or 3 tiers, (depending on how many players are on the team) A total player count of 32 would be appropriate. The first tier would be the general players, just like in any shooter, the guys on the ground doiing the shooting. Tier one would have standard FPS controls.
THEN the second tier only exist depending on the number of players. If there's more than 20 players in a game, this tier would come into play. In the game each player would have a turret/camera on their backs. Tier two would have easy contact with their section of 4 and would control the turret/camera on their back and would be able to issue squad commands to the guy over seeing everything. To make tier two more interesting to play it has its own control scheme seperate from tier one. The left thumbstick controls the camera and turret movement. Up/down would determine the elevation of the camera. left/right would move the camera out as if leaning. Then you'd also be able to push the D-pad in one of the 4 directions to specify which teammate you want to talk to individually, otherwise by deafult you talk to the whole squad. Pushing the A button gives you contact with the commander and B shoots. This would give you a good advantage as a squad leader as an over seer of the immediate group.
THE third tier would be the player who over looks everyhting for his team and have a God mode type of perspective and abilities. Have you ever noticed in the MLG Halo 3 tournaments howeach team has a guy that gets them going and orders commands? Well that's partly what this role does. You have a somewhat rts type of view. There's fog of war, so you can't see enemy troops beyond a certain distance, but you can see all the terrain in a level. if you're playing matches with 16 guys per team, each direction on the D pad would correspond with a certain team and lets you talk with a particular squad leader. Talking by default, no buttons pressed, could either let you talk with all of them or none (that would be an option). The left analog stick in this would move your view around the map (in your overhead perspective). Pushing A, while talking to squad leaders, put up an objective point for that squad to reach. (the objective markers are color coded, as each squad would have a certain color)
THERE's a couple major quirks though to this tier. First being you're team can pick up special items and doing so gives your third tier man an ability. If they find a camera laying on the ground than your Third Tier can become a scout for the tme being, invisble to the other teams Third Tier but not to players. They would spawn as a camera man (hey there's reporters all over the place during a war). And he would sneak around and if he got within the right range he could broadcast whatever the oposition is saying to all squad leaders and then also have the ability to talk, himself, to other the squad to tell them what's happening. Once killed its back into RTS view. There's other skills and/or traps you'd be able o lay down and set too as Third Tier. As such it would be as exciting position to play as any other.Would this not be an ideal way for an FP ...
Its also worth noting this game is supposed to have a sense of humor. It's supposed to be kinda crazy to see a guy running around with a camera, though the tactics are dead serious. Heck, they could give Tier Twos water packs instead of turrets and make it a Mario Paintball game and the water would be a powerful stream, stunning enemies giving your guys time to get i position, and doing so could also revive your squad members a certain number of times before they're out for good.Would this not be an ideal way for an FP ...
Tiers are a lot cooler and def add a strategy element seeing as how you have less of the better stuff and have to utilize them betterI thought a research idea in games like BF2 would be really coo, or two tiers of combatTier1 would be all the standard troops you get at the beginning of the gameTier 2 would be an Elite class with more armor, heavier rifles, AT guns, more attatchments, heavy infantry so they can always have an armored vehicle/transport chopper available, and a few more options. You can also have 5 or so of these guys in a 32 man team to prevent OP'ing the other team.
FPS need stragety too. You don't just run towards the enemy's base without a plan.
FPS need stragety too. You don't just run towards the enemy's base without a plan.
strategy in fps games is pretty limited. The only game where I've ever seen in is in BF2 if you're in a good squad with a good commander and other squads on the field.
